Sura 17: Al-Isrā’ (The Transport)

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
In the name of God, The All Gracious, The All Merciful

سُبْحَـٰنَ ٱلَّذِىٓ أَسْرَىٰ بِعَبْدِهِۦ لَيْلًا مِّنَ ٱلْمَسْجِدِ ٱلْحَرَامِ إِلَى ٱلْمَسْجِدِ ٱلْأَقْصَا ٱلَّذِى بَـٰرَكْنَا حَوْلَهُۥ لِنُرِيَهُۥ مِنْ ءَايَـٰتِنَآ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلْبَصِيرُ ١
[17:1] Glory to The One who transported His servant during the night from the Sacred Mosque to the Ultimate Mosque, where We blessed its surroundings in order to show him some of Our Signs. Indeed, He is The All Hearer, The All Seer.

وَءَاتَيْنَا مُوسَى ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ وَجَعَلْنَـٰهُ هُدًى لِّبَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ أَلَّا تَتَّخِذُوا۟ مِن دُونِى وَكِيلًا ٢
[17:2] And We gave Moses the scripture and rendered it guidance for the Children of Israel that you shall not take anyone besides Me as an advocate.

ذُرِّيَّةَ مَنْ حَمَلْنَا مَعَ نُوحٍ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ عَبْدًا شَكُورًا ٣
[17:3] The progeny, We carried with Noah. Indeed he was an appreciative servant.

وَقَضَيْنَآ إِلَىٰ بَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ فِى ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ لَتُفْسِدُنَّ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ مَرَّتَيْنِ وَلَتَعْلُنَّ عُلُوًّا كَبِيرًا ٤
[17:4] And We preordained for the Children of Israel in the scripture, that you will indeed spread corruption throughout the land twice and you will reach the heights of arrogance.

فَإِذَا جَآءَ وَعْدُ أُولَىٰهُمَا بَعَثْنَا عَلَيْكُمْ عِبَادًا لَّنَآ أُو۟لِى بَأْسٍ شَدِيدٍ فَجَاسُوا۟ خِلَـٰلَ ٱلدِّيَارِ وَكَانَ وَعْدًا مَّفْعُولًا ٥
[17:5] Then when the first time came, We rose against you servants of Ours who possessed great might, and then they searched the homes. And this promise will come to pass.

ثُمَّ رَدَدْنَا لَكُمُ ٱلْكَرَّةَ عَلَيْهِمْ وَأَمْدَدْنَـٰكُم بِأَمْوَٰلٍ وَبَنِينَ وَجَعَلْنَـٰكُمْ أَكْثَرَ نَفِيرًا ٦
[17:6] Then We gave you the upper hand over them and provided for you money and sons and increased your population greatly.

إِنْ أَحْسَنتُمْ أَحْسَنتُمْ لِأَنفُسِكُمْ وَإِنْ أَسَأْتُمْ فَلَهَا فَإِذَا جَآءَ وَعْدُ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ لِيَسُـۥٓـُٔوا۟ وُجُوهَكُمْ وَلِيَدْخُلُوا۟ ٱلْمَسْجِدَ كَمَا دَخَلُوهُ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍ وَلِيُتَبِّرُوا۟ مَا عَلَوْا۟ تَتْبِيرًا ٧
[17:7] If you do good, you do good for yourselves, and if you commit evil, then you will see its results. Then when the other promise is fulfilled, disappointment covers your faces and they enter the Mosque, just like they entered the first time, and they wipe out all the gains you had made.

عَسَىٰ رَبُّكُمْ أَن يَرْحَمَكُمْ وَإِنْ عُدتُّمْ عُدْنَا وَجَعَلْنَا جَهَنَّمَ لِلْكَـٰفِرِينَ حَصِيرًا ٨
[17:8] Perhaps, your Lord will shower you with His mercy. If you show animosity, We will do the same and We have rendered Gehenna as a confinement for the unfaithful.

إِنَّ هَـٰذَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ يَهْدِى لِلَّتِى هِىَ أَقْوَمُ وَيُبَشِّرُ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ ٱلَّذِينَ يَعْمَلُونَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ أَنَّ لَهُمْ أَجْرًا كَبِيرًا ٩
[17:9] Indeed this Quran guides the one who is steadfast and it gives good news to the faithful, those who lead a righteous life that indeed awaiting them is a huge recompense.

وَأَنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ أَعْتَدْنَا لَهُمْ عَذَابًا أَلِيمًا ١٠
[17:10] As for those who do not believe in the Hereafter, We promise them a painful suffering.

وَيَدْعُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ بِٱلشَّرِّ دُعَآءَهُۥ بِٱلْخَيْرِ وَكَانَ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ عَجُولًا ١١
[17:11] And the human being asks for something that may be evil, when he thinks he is asking for something good, and the human being is always impatient.

وَجَعَلْنَا ٱلَّيْلَ وَٱلنَّهَارَ ءَايَتَيْنِ فَمَحَوْنَآ ءَايَةَ ٱلَّيْلِ وَجَعَلْنَآ ءَايَةَ ٱلنَّهَارِ مُبْصِرَةً لِّتَبْتَغُوا۟ فَضْلًا مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ وَلِتَعْلَمُوا۟ عَدَدَ ٱلسِّنِينَ وَٱلْحِسَابَ وَكُلَّ شَىْءٍ فَصَّلْنَـٰهُ تَفْصِيلًا ١٢
[17:12] And We rendered the night and the day as two signs as We turn the night sign into the day sign, bright, that you may seek the provisions of your Lord and in order to teach you counting of the years as well as calculus. And We described everything in full detail.

وَكُلَّ إِنسَـٰنٍ أَلْزَمْنَـٰهُ طَـٰٓئِرَهُۥ فِى عُنُقِهِۦ وَنُخْرِجُ لَهُۥ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ كِتَـٰبًا يَلْقَىٰهُ مَنشُورًا ١٣
[17:13] As for every human, We have tied his deeds around his neck, and We will produce on the Day of Resurrection a record, that he can readily access.

ٱقْرَأْ كِتَـٰبَكَ كَفَىٰ بِنَفْسِكَ ٱلْيَوْمَ عَلَيْكَ حَسِيبًا ١٤
[17:14] Read your record, today you are sufficient as a judge against yourself.

مَّنِ ٱهْتَدَىٰ فَإِنَّمَا يَهْتَدِى لِنَفْسِهِۦ وَمَن ضَلَّ فَإِنَّمَا يَضِلُّ عَلَيْهَا وَلَا تَزِرُ وَازِرَةٌ وِزْرَ أُخْرَىٰ وَمَا كُنَّا مُعَذِّبِينَ حَتَّىٰ نَبْعَثَ رَسُولًا ١٥
[17:15] Anyone who is guided, then indeed his guidance benefits only him and anyone who has gone astray, then indeed his straying will only hurt him. No one will carry another one's sins. And We do not make them suffer until We raise a messenger.

وَإِذَآ أَرَدْنَآ أَن نُّهْلِكَ قَرْيَةً أَمَرْنَا مُتْرَفِيهَا فَفَسَقُوا۟ فِيهَا فَحَقَّ عَلَيْهَا ٱلْقَوْلُ فَدَمَّرْنَـٰهَا تَدْمِيرًا ١٦
[17:16] And if We will to annihilate a community, We let its leaders commit vast corruption therein; then once they truly deserve it, We completely annihilate them.

وَكَمْ أَهْلَكْنَا مِنَ ٱلْقُرُونِ مِنۢ بَعْدِ نُوحٍ وَكَفَىٰ بِرَبِّكَ بِذُنُوبِ عِبَادِهِۦ خَبِيرًۢا بَصِيرًا ١٧
[17:17] And We annihilated many generations after Noah. And your Lord was sufficient as Cognizant, a Seer of His servants sins.

مَّن كَانَ يُرِيدُ ٱلْعَاجِلَةَ عَجَّلْنَا لَهُۥ فِيهَا مَا نَشَآءُ لِمَن نُّرِيدُ ثُمَّ جَعَلْنَا لَهُۥ جَهَنَّمَ يَصْلَىٰهَا مَذْمُومًا مَّدْحُورًا ١٨
[17:18] Anyone who seeks this quick interim, We will give him quickly what We will; then We will make Gehenna his abode where he will end up debased and despised.

وَمَنْ أَرَادَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةَ وَسَعَىٰ لَهَا سَعْيَهَا وَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ كَانَ سَعْيُهُم مَّشْكُورًا ١٩
[17:19] And anyone who seeks the Hereafter, and he works his best to earn it, while being faithful, then he is of those whom their hard work is appreciated.

كُلًّا نُّمِدُّ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ وَهَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ مِنْ عَطَآءِ رَبِّكَ وَمَا كَانَ عَطَآءُ رَبِّكَ مَحْظُورًا ٢٠
[17:20] To both, We continue to give these and those from your Lord's gifts. And your Lord's gifts will never run out.

ٱنظُرْ كَيْفَ فَضَّلْنَا بَعْضَهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ وَلَلْـَٔاخِرَةُ أَكْبَرُ دَرَجَـٰتٍ وَأَكْبَرُ تَفْضِيلًا ٢١
[17:21] Observe how We preferred some of them over others. And in the Hereafter, the ranks are much wider and the preferences are much greater.

لَّا تَجْعَلْ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ1574234 إِلَـٰهًا ءَاخَرَ فَتَقْعُدَ مَذْمُومًا مَّخْذُولًا ٢٢
[17:22] Do not set up another god besides God1574234, lest you will end up debased and disgraced.

وَقَضَىٰ رَبُّكَ أَلَّا تَعْبُدُوٓا۟ إِلَّآ إِيَّاهُ وَبِٱلْوَٰلِدَيْنِ إِحْسَـٰنًا إِمَّا يَبْلُغَنَّ عِندَكَ ٱلْكِبَرَ أَحَدُهُمَآ أَوْ كِلَاهُمَا فَلَا تَقُل لَّهُمَآ أُفٍّ وَلَا تَنْهَرْهُمَا وَقُل لَّهُمَا قَوْلًا كَرِيمًا ٢٣
[17:23] And your Lord has ordained that you shall not worship except Him and you shall be kind to the parents. As long as one or both live, you shall not say to them "Uff" and do not scold them and talk to them in an honorable manner.

وَٱخْفِضْ لَهُمَا جَنَاحَ ٱلذُّلِّ مِنَ ٱلرَّحْمَةِ وَقُل رَّبِّ ٱرْحَمْهُمَا كَمَا رَبَّيَانِى صَغِيرًا ٢٤
[17:24] And you shall lower the wings of humility for them and with kindness and say, Lord, have mercy upon them, for they have raised me from infancy.

رَّبُّكُمْ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا فِى نُفُوسِكُمْ إِن تَكُونُوا۟ صَـٰلِحِينَ فَإِنَّهُۥ كَانَ لِلْأَوَّٰبِينَ غَفُورًا ٢٥
[17:25] Your Lord fully knows what is inside your souls. If you are righteous, then He is All Forgiving towards those who repent.

وَءَاتِ ذَا ٱلْقُرْبَىٰ حَقَّهُۥ وَٱلْمِسْكِينَ وَٱبْنَ ٱلسَّبِيلِ وَلَا تُبَذِّرْ تَبْذِيرًا ٢٦
[17:26] And give the relative their due alms, as well as the poor and the refugee but do not be extravagant.

إِنَّ ٱلْمُبَذِّرِينَ كَانُوٓا۟ إِخْوَٰنَ ٱلشَّيَـٰطِينِ وَكَانَ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ لِرَبِّهِۦ كَفُورًا ٢٧
[17:27] Indeed the extravagant are brethren of devils, and indeed Satan is unappreciative of his Lord.

وَإِمَّا تُعْرِضَنَّ عَنْهُمُ ٱبْتِغَآءَ رَحْمَةٍ مِّن رَّبِّكَ تَرْجُوهَا فَقُل لَّهُمْ قَوْلًا مَّيْسُورًا ٢٨
[17:28] And even if you ignore them, seeking a mercy from your Lord, be hopeful, and talk to them softly.

وَلَا تَجْعَلْ يَدَكَ مَغْلُولَةً إِلَىٰ عُنُقِكَ وَلَا تَبْسُطْهَا كُلَّ ٱلْبَسْطِ فَتَقْعُدَ مَلُومًا مَّحْسُورًا ٢٩
[17:29] And do not tie your hand around your neck and do not open them wide open, then you will end up remorseful and depressed.

إِنَّ رَبَّكَ يَبْسُطُ ٱلرِّزْقَ لِمَن يَشَآءُ وَيَقْدِرُ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ بِعِبَادِهِۦ خَبِيرًۢا بَصِيرًا ٣٠
[17:30] Indeed your Lord increases the provision for whomever He wills and withholds it. Indeed your Lord is All Cognizant, All Seer over His servants.

وَلَا تَقْتُلُوٓا۟ أَوْلَـٰدَكُمْ خَشْيَةَ إِمْلَـٰقٍ نَّحْنُ نَرْزُقُهُمْ وَإِيَّاكُمْ إِنَّ قَتْلَهُمْ كَانَ خِطْـًٔا كَبِيرًا ٣١
[17:31] And do not kill your children fearing poverty, We will provide for them as well as yourselves. Indeed their killing is a grave mistake.

وَلَا تَقْرَبُوا۟ ٱلزِّنَىٰٓ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ فَـٰحِشَةً وَسَآءَ سَبِيلًا ٣٢
[17:32] And do not commit adultery; indeed it is an abomination and an evil path.

وَلَا تَقْتُلُوا۟ ٱلنَّفْسَ ٱلَّتِى حَرَّمَ ٱللَّهُ1575235 إِلَّا بِٱلْحَقِّ وَمَن قُتِلَ مَظْلُومًا فَقَدْ جَعَلْنَا لِوَلِيِّهِۦ سُلْطَـٰنًا فَلَا يُسْرِف فِّى ٱلْقَتْلِ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ مَنصُورًا ٣٣
[17:33] And do not kill a soul, for God1575235 has made it sacred, except in the course of justice. And whoever is killed unjustly, We then indeed grant authority to his heir, therefore, do not exceed the limits in avenging the murder. He will surely be helped.

وَلَا تَقْرَبُوا۟ مَالَ ٱلْيَتِيمِ إِلَّا بِٱلَّتِى هِىَ أَحْسَنُ حَتَّىٰ يَبْلُغَ أَشُدَّهُۥ وَأَوْفُوا۟ بِٱلْعَهْدِ إِنَّ ٱلْعَهْدَ كَانَ مَسْـُٔولًا ٣٤
[17:34] And do not consume the fatherless' money, except in a righteous way, guard it until he reaches maturity. And you shall fulfill your promise; indeed you are responsible for your promises.

وَأَوْفُوا۟ ٱلْكَيْلَ إِذَا كِلْتُمْ وَزِنُوا۟ بِٱلْقِسْطَاسِ ٱلْمُسْتَقِيمِ ذَٰلِكَ خَيْرٌ وَأَحْسَنُ تَأْوِيلًا ٣٥
[17:35] And you shall give full measure when you measure and weigh with an equitable scale. Such is fairness and the most righteous approach.

وَلَا تَقْفُ مَا لَيْسَ لَكَ بِهِۦ عِلْمٌ إِنَّ ٱلسَّمْعَ وَٱلْبَصَرَ وَٱلْفُؤَادَ كُلُّ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ كَانَ عَنْهُ مَسْـُٔولًا ٣٦
[17:36] And do not accept anything that you have no knowledge thereof. Indeed you have the hearing, the eyesight and the mind and you are responsible for using them.

وَلَا تَمْشِ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ مَرَحًا إِنَّكَ لَن تَخْرِقَ ٱلْأَرْضَ وَلَن تَبْلُغَ ٱلْجِبَالَ طُولًا ٣٧
[17:37] And do not tread the land arrogantly, for you cannot drill into the earth and you are not as tall as the mountains.

كُلُّ ذَٰلِكَ كَانَ سَيِّئُهُۥ عِندَ رَبِّكَ مَكْرُوهًا ٣٨
[17:38] These are all bad behaviors and are disliked by your Lord.

ذَٰلِكَ مِمَّآ أَوْحَىٰٓ إِلَيْكَ رَبُّكَ مِنَ ٱلْحِكْمَةِ وَلَا تَجْعَلْ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ1576236 إِلَـٰهًا ءَاخَرَ فَتُلْقَىٰ فِى جَهَنَّمَ مَلُومًا مَّدْحُورًا ٣٩
[17:39] These are some of the inspirations of wisdom to you from your Lord. And do not set up another god besides God1576236 for you will then end up in Gehenna, blameworthy and rejected.

أَفَأَصْفَىٰكُمْ رَبُّكُم بِٱلْبَنِينَ وَٱتَّخَذَ مِنَ ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ إِنَـٰثًا إِنَّكُمْ لَتَقُولُونَ قَوْلًا عَظِيمًا ٤٠
[17:40] Has your Lord blessed you with sons, while taking angels as daughters for Himself? Indeed you are making a huge claim.

وَلَقَدْ صَرَّفْنَا فِى هَـٰذَا ٱلْقُرْءَانِ لِيَذَّكَّرُوا۟ وَمَا يَزِيدُهُمْ إِلَّا نُفُورًا ٤١
[17:41] And indeed We have cited repeated examples in this Quran that they may take heed, but it did not increase anything for them except their hatred.

قُل لَّوْ كَانَ مَعَهُۥٓ ءَالِهَةٌ كَمَا يَقُولُونَ إِذًا لَّٱبْتَغَوْا۟ إِلَىٰ ذِى ٱلْعَرْشِ سَبِيلًا ٤٢
[17:42] Say, if there were other gods with Him, such as you claim, then, they would have tried to take over part of the dominion.

سُبْحَـٰنَهُۥ وَتَعَـٰلَىٰ عَمَّا يَقُولُونَ عُلُوًّا كَبِيرًا ٤٣
[17:43] Be He glorified, much too High, what they claim is the height of arrogance.

تُسَبِّحُ لَهُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتُ ٱلسَّبْعُ وَٱلْأَرْضُ وَمَن فِيهِنَّ وَإِن مِّن شَىْءٍ إِلَّا يُسَبِّحُ بِحَمْدِهِۦ وَلَـٰكِن لَّا تَفْقَهُونَ تَسْبِيحَهُمْ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ حَلِيمًا غَفُورًا ٤٤
[17:44] The seven vacua and matter glorify Him constantly as well as everyone in them. And there is not a thing that does not glorify through praising Him, but you do not comprehend their glorification. Indeed He is Clement, All Forgiving.

وَإِذَا قَرَأْتَ ٱلْقُرْءَانَ جَعَلْنَا بَيْنَكَ وَبَيْنَ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ حِجَابًا مَّسْتُورًا ٤٥
[17:45] And when you recite the Quran, We place between you and those who do not believe in the Hereafter an impregnable barrier.

وَجَعَلْنَا عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمْ أَكِنَّةً أَن يَفْقَهُوهُ وَفِىٓ ءَاذَانِهِمْ وَقْرًا وَإِذَا ذَكَرْتَ رَبَّكَ فِى ٱلْقُرْءَانِ وَحْدَهُۥ وَلَّوْا۟ عَلَىٰٓ أَدْبَـٰرِهِمْ نُفُورًا ٤٦
[17:46] And We put a seal on their hearts so they cannot understand it and deafness in their ears. And when you mention your Lord in the Quran alone, they turn their backs hatefully.

نَّحْنُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يَسْتَمِعُونَ بِهِۦٓ إِذْ يَسْتَمِعُونَ إِلَيْكَ وَإِذْ هُمْ نَجْوَىٰٓ إِذْ يَقُولُ ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ إِن تَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا رَجُلًا مَّسْحُورًا ٤٧
[17:47] We know full well what they hear when they listen to you, and when they whisper, when the transgressors say, you are following a bewitched man.

ٱنظُرْ كَيْفَ ضَرَبُوا۟ لَكَ ٱلْأَمْثَالَ فَضَلُّوا۟ فَلَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ سَبِيلًا ٤٨
[17:48] Observe what they are likening you to; they thus go astray and they cannot find their way.

وَقَالُوٓا۟ أَءِذَا كُنَّا عِظَـٰمًا وَرُفَـٰتًا أَءِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ خَلْقًا جَدِيدًا ٤٩
[17:49] And they said, when we become bones and fragments, do we get resurrected as a new creation?

قُلْ كُونُوا۟ حِجَارَةً أَوْ حَدِيدًا ٥٠
[17:50] Say, even if you turn into rock or iron.

أَوْ خَلْقًا مِّمَّا يَكْبُرُ فِى صُدُورِكُمْ فَسَيَقُولُونَ مَن يُعِيدُنَا قُلِ ٱلَّذِى فَطَرَكُمْ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍ فَسَيُنْغِضُونَ إِلَيْكَ رُءُوسَهُمْ وَيَقُولُونَ مَتَىٰ هُوَ قُلْ عَسَىٰٓ أَن يَكُونَ قَرِيبًا ٥١
[17:51] Or a creation that you cannot even fathom in your mind. Then they will say who is bringing us back? Say, the One who initiated you the first time. Then they shake their heads at you and they say when would that be? Say, it may be very soon.

[17:54] Your Lord knows you full well. He may shower you with His Mercy or He may will to cause you suffering. And We did not send you as their advocate.

[17:55] And your Lord fully knows regarding everyone in the vacua and matter. And indeed We preferred some prophets over others; accordingly, We gave David the Psalms.

[17:56] Say, call upon those besides Him, according to your conjectures, then, you will see that they cannot relieve your hardship nor can they change your situation.

[17:57] Those whom they call are devoted to their Lord, seeking the means to get closer to Him and are hopeful of His Mercy and fear His punishment. Indeed Your Lord's punishment shall be avoided.

[17:58] There is not a single community that We do not annihilate before the Day of Resurrection or make them endure an extreme suffering. Indeed this is recorded in the scripture.

[17:59] And We discontinued sending signs once the previous generations chose to reject them. As an example, We presented Thamoud with the camel as a portent, but they transgressed against her. And We send the signs only to instill fear.

وَإِذْ قُلْنَا لَكَ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ أَحَاطَ بِٱلنَّاسِ وَمَا جَعَلْنَا ٱلرُّءْيَا ٱلَّتِىٓ أَرَيْنَـٰكَ إِلَّا فِتْنَةً لِّلنَّاسِ وَٱلشَّجَرَةَ ٱلْمَلْعُونَةَ فِى ٱلْقُرْءَانِ وَنُخَوِّفُهُمْ فَمَا يَزِيدُهُمْ إِلَّا طُغْيَـٰنًا كَبِيرًا ٦٠
[17:60] And We said to you that indeed your Lord completely surrounds the people. And the dream We showed you was meant to test the people as well as the cursed tree in the Quran. And We try to instill fear in them, it only maximizes their tyranny.

[17:61] And when We said to the angels to honor Adam, they all did, except Iblis, he said, should I honor the one whom You created from clay?

[17:64] Try to entice whomever you can with your voice, and bring your forces and your men upon them and promise them a share of the wealth and children. However, Satan only promises a mirage.

[17:65] Indeed as for My servants, you have no authority over them. And your Lord is sufficient as an advocate.

[17:66] Your Lord is the One who runs the ship in the sea that you may seek His bounty. Indeed He is All Merciful towards you.

[17:67] And when a disaster afflicts you on the sea, who are you going to call except Him? Then when We save you to the dry land, you turn away. And the human being is always unappreciative.

[17:68] Can you guarantee that the shore will not bury you, or a storm will not come your way, then you cannot find an advocate for yourselves?

[17:69] Can you guarantee that He would not send you back to the sea once more, then send a violent wind upon you and drown you because of your infidelity, then you would not find any helper against Us?

[17:70] And indeed We honored the Children of Adam as We carried them on the land and the sea, and provided for them from clean provisions and preferred them over much of what We created, a great preference.

[17:71] The day We call on all humans along with their leaders, then, those who receive their record in their right hands will read their record without the least injustice.

[17:72] And whoever is blind here, then he is also blind in the Hereafter, and he has gone totally astray off the path.

[17:73] And they almost tricked you to abandon what We inspired to you in order to attribute other things to Us, and they almost made a beloved friend out of you.

[17:75] Had you done that; We would have indeed made you taste twice the suffering in this life and twice in the Hereafter, then you would not have any helper against Us.

[17:76] And they almost banished you from the land, and evicted you therefrom. And had you stayed, they would have opposed you except for a few.

[17:78] Observe the contact prayer when the sun starts its decline from the highest point in the sky towards the darkness of the night, and read the Quran at dawn, indeed reading the Quran at dawn is witnessed.

[17:79] And during the night, you shall rise up from sleep to pray voluntarily, so that your Lord may raise you to an honorable position.

[17:80] And say, Lord admit me an honorable admittance and make my departure an honorable departure. And provide for me from your special place a powerful support.

[17:82] And what is revealed from the Quran is a healing and mercy for the faithful and does not increase anything for the unjust, except loss.

[17:83] And when We bless the human being, he turns away and distances himself farther going in some direction, and when an adversity touches him, he becomes despondent.

[17:85] And they ask you about the Spirit, say, the Spirit is at my Lord's command and what is given to you from knowledge is minute.

[17:86] And if We willed, We would have indeed recalled what We had revealed to you, then you would have not found any advocate for yourself against Us.

[17:88] Say, if all the humans and the jinns banded together to produce a Quran like this, they would not be able to produce one like it, no matter how much assistance they give one another.

[17:89] And indeed We cited for the people in this Quran all kinds of examples, but most people reject it and are ungrateful.

[17:91] Or you own a garden of date palms and grapes with rivers running through it continuously.

[17:92] Or you cause the sky to fall on us as you conjectured, and completely cover us or bring us God1577237 and His angels en masse.

أَوْ يَكُونَ لَكَ بَيْتٌ مِّن زُخْرُفٍ أَوْ تَرْقَىٰ فِى ٱلسَّمَآءِ وَلَن نُّؤْمِنَ لِرُقِيِّكَ حَتَّىٰ تُنَزِّلَ عَلَيْنَا كِتَـٰبًا نَّقْرَؤُهُۥ قُلْ سُبْحَانَ رَبِّى هَلْ كُنتُ إِلَّا بَشَرًا رَّسُولًا ٩٣
[17:93] Or you own a house adorned with ornaments, or you climb into the sky, and we will not believe you even if you do climb, until you bring us a book that we can read. Say, glory to my Lord, I am no more than a human messenger.

[17:94] And what prevented the people from believing when guidance came to them was that they questioned, did God1578238 raise a human messenger?

[17:95] Say, if the angels inhabited the land, we would have sent from the sky an angel messenger.

[17:96] Say, God1579239 is sufficient as a witness between me and you. Indeed, He is All Cognizant, All Seer over His servants.

وَمَن يَهْدِ ٱللَّهُ1580240 فَهُوَ ٱلْمُهْتَدِ وَمَن يُضْلِلْ فَلَن تَجِدَ لَهُمْ أَوْلِيَآءَ مِن دُونِهِۦ وَنَحْشُرُهُمْ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ عَلَىٰ وُجُوهِهِمْ عُمْيًا وَبُكْمًا وَصُمًّا مَّأْوَىٰهُمْ جَهَنَّمُ كُلَّمَا خَبَتْ زِدْنَـٰهُمْ سَعِيرًا ٩٧
[17:97] And whomever God1580240 guides, then he is absolutely guided, and whomever He sends astray, then you cannot find any ally for them besides Him, and We gather them all on the Day of Resurrection facing blindness, muteness, and deafness. Their abode is Gehenna, humiliated and We will increase the blaze for them.

[17:98] This is their requital because they indeed rejected Our proofs, and they said; when we become bones and fragments, do we get resurrected as a new creation?

[17:99] Do they not realize that indeed God1581241 who has created the vacua and matter is capable of creating similar ones and that He assigned an interim for them wherein there is no doubt? However the transgressors continue to reject it and are ungrateful.

[17:100] Say, even if you possessed the treasures of my Lord's mercy, you would have withheld them hesitating to give them away. Indeed the human being is stingy.

وَلَقَدْ ءَاتَيْنَا مُوسَىٰ تِسْعَ ءَايَـٰتٍۭ بَيِّنَـٰتٍ فَسْـَٔلْ بَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ إِذْ جَآءَهُمْ فَقَالَ لَهُۥ فِرْعَوْنُ إِنِّى لَأَظُنُّكَ يَـٰمُوسَىٰ مَسْحُورًا ١٠١
[17:101] And We indeed gave Moses nine proven Signs; just ask the Children of Israel; however, when he presented them to Pharaoh, he said, I certainly think that you are bewitched O Moses.

قَالَ لَقَدْ عَلِمْتَ مَآ أَنزَلَ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ إِلَّا رَبُّ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ بَصَآئِرَ وَإِنِّى لَأَظُنُّكَ يَـٰفِرْعَوْنُ مَثْبُورًا ١٠٢
[17:102] He said, you shall know that indeed the Lord of the vacua and matter has revealed these portents, and I certainly think that you are doomed, O Pharaoh.

فَأَرَادَ أَن يَسْتَفِزَّهُم مِّنَ ٱلْأَرْضِ فَأَغْرَقْنَـٰهُ وَمَن مَّعَهُۥ جَمِيعًا ١٠٣
[17:103] He then decided to banish them from the land; We therefore drowned him and those with him altogether.

وَقُلْنَا مِنۢ بَعْدِهِۦ لِبَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ ٱسْكُنُوا۟ ٱلْأَرْضَ فَإِذَا جَآءَ وَعْدُ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ جِئْنَا بِكُمْ لَفِيفًا ١٠٤
[17:104] And We said to the Children of Israel, settle in this land and when the promise of the Hereafter is fulfilled, We will gather you all together.

وَبِٱلْحَقِّ أَنزَلْنَـٰهُ وَبِٱلْحَقِّ نَزَلَ وَمَآ أَرْسَلْنَـٰكَ إِلَّا مُبَشِّرًا وَنَذِيرًا ١٠٥
[17:105] And truthfully We revealed it and truthfully it was revealed, and We have sent you only as a bearer of good news as well as a deliverer of warning.

وَقُرْءَانًا فَرَقْنَـٰهُ لِتَقْرَأَهُۥ عَلَى ٱلنَّاسِ عَلَىٰ مُكْثٍ وَنَزَّلْنَـٰهُ تَنزِيلًا ١٠٦
[17:106] And a Quran, We sent down in batches in order to recite to the people slowly, although We revealed it all as a single revelation.

قُلْ ءَامِنُوا۟ بِهِۦٓ أَوْ لَا تُؤْمِنُوٓا۟ إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْعِلْمَ مِن قَبْلِهِۦٓ إِذَا يُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِمْ يَخِرُّونَ لِلْأَذْقَانِ سُجَّدًا ١٠٧
[17:107] Say, you can either believe in it or do not believe. Indeed those who have been given knowledge previously, once it is recited to them, they bow their heads, prostrating.

وَيَقُولُونَ سُبْحَـٰنَ رَبِّنَآ إِن كَانَ وَعْدُ رَبِّنَا لَمَفْعُولًا ١٠٨
[17:108] And they say, glory to our Lord, for indeed the promise of our Lord has been fulfilled.

وَيَخِرُّونَ لِلْأَذْقَانِ يَبْكُونَ وَيَزِيدُهُمْ خُشُوعًا ۩ ١٠٩
[17:109] As they bow their heads, weeping as it increases their reverence.

قُلِ ٱدْعُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ1582242 أَوِ ٱدْعُوا۟ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنَ أَيًّا مَّا تَدْعُوا۟ فَلَهُ ٱلْأَسْمَآءُ ٱلْحُسْنَىٰ وَلَا تَجْهَرْ بِصَلَاتِكَ وَلَا تُخَافِتْ بِهَا وَٱبْتَغِ بَيْنَ ذَٰلِكَ سَبِيلًا ١١٠
[17:110] Say, call upon God1582242 or call upon The All Gracious, you may do either; remember that to Him belong the most beautiful names. And do not perform your contact prayer loudly or silently; you shall choose a moderate tone.

وَقُلِ ٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ1583243 ٱلَّذِى لَمْ يَتَّخِذْ وَلَدًا وَلَمْ يَكُن لَّهُۥ شَرِيكٌ فِى ٱلْمُلْكِ وَلَمْ يَكُن لَّهُۥ وَلِىٌّ مِّنَ ٱلذُّلِّ وَكَبِّرْهُ تَكْبِيرًۢا ١١١
[17:111] Say, praise God1583243 the One who has not begotten a son nor does He have any partners in kingship and He has no heir because of need, and you shall extol Him continuously.
