Sura 36: Yā-Sīn (YaSeen)

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

In the name of God, The All Gracious, The All Merciful

[36:1] YaSeen.

وَٱلْقُرْءَانِ ٱلْحَكِيمِ ٢

[36:2] By the Quran, full of wisdom,-

إِنَّكَ لَمِنَ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ ٣

[36:3] -most assuredly you are one of the messengers,-

عَلَىٰ صِرَٰطٍ مُّسْتَقِيمٍ ٤

[36:4] -on a straight path.

تَنزِيلَ ٱلْعَزِيزِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ ٥

[36:5] A revelation from The Almighty, The All Merciful-

لِتُنذِرَ قَوْمًا مَّآ أُنذِرَ ءَابَآؤُهُمْ فَهُمْ غَـٰفِلُونَ ٦

[36:6] -to warn a people whose parents were never warned, therefore they are totally heedless.

لَقَدْ حَقَّ ٱلْقَوْلُ عَلَىٰٓ أَكْثَرِهِمْ فَهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ ٧

[36:7] It is a truthful assertion that most of them will never attain faith.

إِنَّا جَعَلْنَا فِىٓ أَعْنَـٰقِهِمْ أَغْلَـٰلًا فَهِىَ إِلَى ٱلْأَذْقَانِ فَهُم مُّقْمَحُونَ ٨

[36:8] We will surely place shackles around their necks up to their chins and their heads will be locked in place.

وَجَعَلْنَا مِنۢ بَيْنِ أَيْدِيهِمْ سَدًّا وَمِنْ خَلْفِهِمْ سَدًّا فَأَغْشَيْنَـٰهُمْ فَهُمْ لَا يُبْصِرُونَ ٩

[36:9] And We place a barrier in front of them and a barrier behind them, We then completely cover them and they will not be able to see.

وَسَوَآءٌ عَلَيْهِمْ ءَأَنذَرْتَهُمْ أَمْ لَمْ تُنذِرْهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ ١٠

[36:10] And it is the same if you warn them or do not warn them; they will never attain faith.

إِنَّمَا تُنذِرُ مَنِ ٱتَّبَعَ ٱلذِّكْرَ وَخَشِىَ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنَ بِٱلْغَيْبِ فَبَشِّرْهُ بِمَغْفِرَةٍ وَأَجْرٍ كَرِيمٍ ١١

[36:11] Warning is only heeded by the one who follows the reminder and fears the All Gracious in his privacy, therefore give him the good news of forgiveness and a generous recompense.

إِنَّا نَحْنُ نُحْىِ ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ وَنَكْتُبُ مَا قَدَّمُوا۟ وَءَاثَـٰرَهُمْ وَكُلَّ شَىْءٍ أَحْصَيْنَـٰهُ فِىٓ إِمَامٍ مُّبِينٍ ١٢

[36:12] We certainly resurrect the dead and record their past deeds as well as their legacy, and we have counted everything in a profound record.

وَٱضْرِبْ لَهُم مَّثَلًا أَصْحَـٰبَ ٱلْقَرْيَةِ إِذْ جَآءَهَا ٱلْمُرْسَلُونَ ١٣

[36:13] And cite for them the example of the community who received messengers.

إِذْ أَرْسَلْنَآ إِلَيْهِمُ ٱثْنَيْنِ فَكَذَّبُوهُمَا فَعَزَّزْنَا بِثَالِثٍ فَقَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّآ إِلَيْكُم مُّرْسَلُونَ ١٤

[36:14] When We sent them two, they rejected them; We then strengthened them with a third, they then said; we are messengers dispatched to you.

قَالُوا۟ مَآ أَنتُمْ إِلَّا بَشَرٌ مِّثْلُنَا وَمَآ أَنزَلَ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ مِن شَىْءٍ إِنْ أَنتُمْ إِلَّا تَكْذِبُونَ ١٥

[36:15] They said; you are no more than humans like us, and The All Gracious has not revealed anything, you are just liars.

قَالُوا۟ رَبُّنَا يَعْلَمُ إِنَّآ إِلَيْكُمْ لَمُرْسَلُونَ ١٦

[36:16] They said; our Lord knows that we have indeed been sent to you.

وَمَا عَلَيْنَآ إِلَّا ٱلْبَلَـٰغُ ٱلْمُبِينُ ١٧

[36:17] And our only mission is to clearly deliver.

قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّا تَطَيَّرْنَا بِكُمْ لَئِن لَّمْ تَنتَهُوا۟ لَنَرْجُمَنَّكُمْ وَلَيَمَسَّنَّكُم مِّنَّا عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ ١٨

[36:18] They said; indeed you are bad omen for us and if you do not refrain, we will surely stone you and inflict upon you a painful suffering.

قَالُوا۟ طَـٰٓئِرُكُم مَّعَكُمْ أَئِن ذُكِّرْتُم بَلْ أَنتُمْ قَوْمٌ مُّسْرِفُونَ ١٩

[36:19] They said; your bad omen is due to yourselves, because you have been reminded but you continue to be transgressing people.

وَجَآءَ مِنْ أَقْصَا ٱلْمَدِينَةِ رَجُلٌ يَسْعَىٰ قَالَ يَـٰقَوْمِ ٱتَّبِعُوا۟ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ ٢٠

[36:20] And a man came running from the far side of the city, saying; O my people follow the messengers.

ٱتَّبِعُوا۟ مَن لَّا يَسْـَٔلُكُمْ أَجْرًا وَهُم مُّهْتَدُونَ ٢١

[36:21] Follow those who do not ask you for any wage and are guided.

وَمَا لِىَ لَآ أَعْبُدُ ٱلَّذِى فَطَرَنِى وَإِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُونَ ٢٢

[36:22] And why should I not worship the One who initiated me and to Him is my final return.

ءَأَتَّخِذُ مِن دُونِهِۦٓ ءَالِهَةً إِن يُرِدْنِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ بِضُرٍّ لَّا تُغْنِ عَنِّى شَفَـٰعَتُهُمْ شَيْـًٔا وَلَا يُنقِذُونِ ٢٣

[36:23] Should I take other gods besides Him? If The All Gracious wills harm for me, their intercession will not benefit me in the least nor can they ever save me.

إِنِّىٓ إِذًا لَّفِى ضَلَـٰلٍ مُّبِينٍ ٢٤

[36:24] I will surely end up absolutely astray.

إِنِّىٓ ءَامَنتُ بِرَبِّكُمْ فَٱسْمَعُونِ ٢٥

[36:25] I have certainly believed in your Lord, therefore hear me out.

قِيلَ ٱدْخُلِ ٱلْجَنَّةَ قَالَ يَـٰلَيْتَ قَوْمِى يَعْلَمُونَ ٢٦

[36:26] He was told; enter Paradise. He said; O I wished my people knew -

بِمَا غَفَرَ لِى رَبِّى وَجَعَلَنِى مِنَ ٱلْمُكْرَمِينَ ٢٧

[36:27] -that my Lord has forgiven me and made me one of the honorable ones.

وَمَآ أَنزَلْنَا عَلَىٰ قَوْمِهِۦ مِنۢ بَعْدِهِۦ مِن جُندٍ مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ وَمَا كُنَّا مُنزِلِينَ ٢٨

[36:28] And we did not send down an army from the sky upon his people after him, We definitely did not send it.

إِن كَانَتْ إِلَّا صَيْحَةً وَٰحِدَةً فَإِذَا هُمْ خَـٰمِدُونَ ٢٩

[36:29] All it took was a single thunderous sound whereby they became silent.

يَـٰحَسْرَةً عَلَى ٱلْعِبَادِ مَا يَأْتِيهِم مِّن رَّسُولٍ إِلَّا كَانُوا۟ بِهِۦ يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ ٣٠

[36:30] How sad for the servants that every time they receive a messenger, they ridicule him.

أَلَمْ يَرَوْا۟ كَمْ أَهْلَكْنَا قَبْلَهُم مِّنَ ٱلْقُرُونِ أَنَّهُمْ إِلَيْهِمْ لَا يَرْجِعُونَ ٣١

[36:31] Do they not see that We annihilated many generations before them; that for sure they will never come back?

وَإِن كُلٌّ لَّمَّا جَمِيعٌ لَّدَيْنَا مُحْضَرُونَ ٣٢

[36:32] All of them will be summoned before Us.

وَءَايَةٌ لَّهُمُ ٱلْأَرْضُ ٱلْمَيْتَةُ أَحْيَيْنَـٰهَا وَأَخْرَجْنَا مِنْهَا حَبًّا فَمِنْهُ يَأْكُلُونَ ٣٣

[36:33] And a sign for them is the dead land that We revive, and We produce therefrom the seed that they eat.

وَجَعَلْنَا فِيهَا جَنَّـٰتٍ مِّن نَّخِيلٍ وَأَعْنَـٰبٍ وَفَجَّرْنَا فِيهَا مِنَ ٱلْعُيُونِ ٣٤

[36:34] And We create therein gardens of date palms and grapes and We cause springs to gush in its midst.

لِيَأْكُلُوا۟ مِن ثَمَرِهِۦ وَمَا عَمِلَتْهُ أَيْدِيهِمْ أَفَلَا يَشْكُرُونَ ٣٥

[36:35] This is in order to eat from His fruit and the results of their handiwork. Would you then not be grateful?

سُبْحَـٰنَ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ ٱلْأَزْوَٰجَ كُلَّهَا مِمَّا تُنۢبِتُ ٱلْأَرْضُ وَمِنْ أَنفُسِهِمْ وَمِمَّا لَا يَعْلَمُونَ ٣٦

[36:36] Glory to the One who created everything in pairs, from everything that grows out of the ground as well as themselves and that which they do not know.

وَءَايَةٌ لَّهُمُ ٱلَّيْلُ نَسْلَخُ مِنْهُ ٱلنَّهَارَ فَإِذَا هُم مُّظْلِمُونَ ٣٧

[36:37] And a Sign for them is the night, as We remove the daylight therefrom, then they end up in total darkness.

وَٱلشَّمْسُ تَجْرِى لِمُسْتَقَرٍّ لَّهَا ذَٰلِكَ تَقْدِيرُ ٱلْعَزِيزِ ٱلْعَلِيمِ ٣٨

[36:38] As for the Sun, it floats towards a fixed position designated for her, according to the design of The Almighty, The All Knowing.

وَٱلْقَمَرَ قَدَّرْنَـٰهُ مَنَازِلَ حَتَّىٰ عَادَ كَٱلْعُرْجُونِ ٱلْقَدِيمِ ٣٩

[36:39] As for the Moon, We have designed different stations for it, as it returns like an old curved sheath.

لَا ٱلشَّمْسُ يَنۢبَغِى لَهَآ أَن تُدْرِكَ ٱلْقَمَرَ وَلَا ٱلَّيْلُ سَابِقُ ٱلنَّهَارِ وَكُلٌّ فِى فَلَكٍ يَسْبَحُونَ ٤٠

[36:40] The Sun is never to catch up with the Moon, nor can the night race ahead of the day. Each floats in a specific orbit.

وَءَايَةٌ لَّهُمْ أَنَّا حَمَلْنَا ذُرِّيَّتَهُمْ فِى ٱلْفُلْكِ ٱلْمَشْحُونِ ٤١

[36:41] Another sign for them is that indeed We carried their progeny on the loaded ark.

وَخَلَقْنَا لَهُم مِّن مِّثْلِهِۦ مَا يَرْكَبُونَ ٤٢

[36:42] And We created for them similar ones on which they ride.

وَإِن نَّشَأْ نُغْرِقْهُمْ فَلَا صَرِيخَ لَهُمْ وَلَا هُمْ يُنقَذُونَ ٤٣

[36:43] Had We willed, We could have drowned them; so that neither their screams would have been heard nor would they have been rescued.

إِلَّا رَحْمَةً مِّنَّا وَمَتَـٰعًا إِلَىٰ حِينٍ ٤٤

[36:44] It is only a mercy from Us, and sustenance for a while.

وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمُ ٱتَّقُوا۟ مَا بَيْنَ أَيْدِيكُمْ وَمَا خَلْفَكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُرْحَمُونَ ٤٥

[36:45] And when they are told; you should fear deeds of your past and what is awaiting you in the future that you may attain mercy; -

وَمَا تَأْتِيهِم مِّنْ ءَايَةٍ مِّنْ ءَايَـٰتِ رَبِّهِمْ إِلَّا كَانُوا۟ عَنْهَا مُعْرِضِينَ ٤٦

[36:46] -no matter what sign is manifested to them from their Lord's signs, they ignore it.

وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ أَنفِقُوا۟ مِمَّا رَزَقَكُمُ ٱللَّهُ قَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لِلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ أَنُطْعِمُ مَن لَّوْ يَشَآءُ ٱللَّهُ أَطْعَمَهُۥٓ إِنْ أَنتُمْ إِلَّا فِى ضَلَـٰلٍ مُّبِينٍ ٤٧

[36:47] And when they are told; spend from what God has provided for you, those who are unfaithful say to the faithful, why should we feed those whom God would have fed if He had so willed? You are clearly gone astray.

وَيَقُولُونَ مَتَىٰ هَـٰذَا ٱلْوَعْدُ إِن كُنتُمْ صَـٰدِقِينَ ٤٨

[36:48] And they say; when will this promise be fulfilled if you are truthful?

مَا يَنظُرُونَ إِلَّا صَيْحَةً وَٰحِدَةً تَأْخُذُهُمْ وَهُمْ يَخِصِّمُونَ ٤٩

[36:49] Before too long, they will be overcome by a single thunderous sound as they are feuding.

فَلَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ تَوْصِيَةً وَلَآ إِلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهِمْ يَرْجِعُونَ ٥٠

[36:50] They will have no chance to even make a will, nor will they ever join their family.

وَنُفِخَ فِى ٱلصُّورِ فَإِذَا هُم مِّنَ ٱلْأَجْدَاثِ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِمْ يَنسِلُونَ ٥١

[36:51] And the trumpet sounds, whereby they will come out of the graves rushing to their Lord, generation after generation.

قَالُوا۟ يَـٰوَيْلَنَا مَنۢ بَعَثَنَا مِن مَّرْقَدِنَا هَـٰذَا مَا وَعَدَ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ وَصَدَقَ ٱلْمُرْسَلُونَ ٥٢

[36:52] They say; woe to us, who resurrected us from our tombs? This is what The All Gracious promised, and the messengers were truthful.

إِن كَانَتْ إِلَّا صَيْحَةً وَٰحِدَةً فَإِذَا هُمْ جَمِيعٌ لَّدَيْنَا مُحْضَرُونَ ٥٣

[36:53] It will be only a single thunderous sound, whereby they all will be summoned before Us.

فَٱلْيَوْمَ لَا تُظْلَمُ نَفْسٌ شَيْـًٔا وَلَا تُجْزَوْنَ إِلَّا مَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ ٥٤

[36:54] Then on that day, no soul will suffer any injustice and you will be repaid exactly for what you did.

إِنَّ أَصْحَـٰبَ ٱلْجَنَّةِ ٱلْيَوْمَ فِى شُغُلٍ فَـٰكِهُونَ ٥٥

[36:55] Indeed the dwellers of Paradise on that day will be happily busy.

هُمْ وَأَزْوَٰجُهُمْ فِى ظِلَـٰلٍ عَلَى ٱلْأَرَآئِكِ مُتَّكِـُٔونَ ٥٦

[36:56] They and their spouses will rest on furnishings in extended shades.

لَهُمْ فِيهَا فَـٰكِهَةٌ وَلَهُم مَّا يَدَّعُونَ ٥٧

[36:57] Therein will be fruits and everything they desire.

سَلَـٰمٌ قَوْلًا مِّن رَّبٍّ رَّحِيمٍ ٥٨

[36:58] Greetings of peace from an All Merciful Lord.

وَٱمْتَـٰزُوا۟ ٱلْيَوْمَ أَيُّهَا ٱلْمُجْرِمُونَ ٥٩

[36:59] As for you O guilty, you will be set aside on that day.

أَلَمْ أَعْهَدْ إِلَيْكُمْ يَـٰبَنِىٓ ءَادَمَ أَن لَّا تَعْبُدُوا۟ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنَ إِنَّهُۥ لَكُمْ عَدُوٌّ مُّبِينٌ ٦٠

[36:60] Did I not make a covenant with you O Children of Adam that you shall not worship Satan; for indeed he is your most manifest enemy?-

وَأَنِ ٱعْبُدُونِى هَـٰذَا صِرَٰطٌ مُّسْتَقِيمٌ ٦١

[36:61] And that you shall worship Me, this is the straight path?

وَلَقَدْ أَضَلَّ مِنكُمْ جِبِلًّا كَثِيرًا أَفَلَمْ تَكُونُوا۟ تَعْقِلُونَ ٦٢

[36:62] And he has surely misled multitudes of you. Do you not then use your intelligence?

هَـٰذِهِۦ جَهَنَّمُ ٱلَّتِى كُنتُمْ تُوعَدُونَ ٦٣

[36:63] This is Gehenna that was promised to you.

ٱصْلَوْهَا ٱلْيَوْمَ بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَكْفُرُونَ ٦٤

[36:64] Today it will be your abode, because of your unfaithfulness.

ٱلْيَوْمَ نَخْتِمُ عَلَىٰٓ أَفْوَٰهِهِمْ وَتُكَلِّمُنَآ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَتَشْهَدُ أَرْجُلُهُم بِمَا كَانُوا۟ يَكْسِبُونَ ٦٥

[36:65] On that day, We will seal their mouths and their hands will speak to us, and their feet will bear witness to everything they have done.

وَلَوْ نَشَآءُ لَطَمَسْنَا عَلَىٰٓ أَعْيُنِهِمْ فَٱسْتَبَقُوا۟ ٱلصِّرَٰطَ فَأَنَّىٰ يُبْصِرُونَ ٦٦

[36:66] If We willed, We could have certainly veiled their eyes; consequently they would have wandered off without being able to see.

وَلَوْ نَشَآءُ لَمَسَخْنَـٰهُمْ عَلَىٰ مَكَانَتِهِمْ فَمَا ٱسْتَطَـٰعُوا۟ مُضِيًّا وَلَا يَرْجِعُونَ ٦٧

[36:67] And if We willed, We could have transfixed them in their places; so they could not move forward, nor could they go back.

وَمَن نُّعَمِّرْهُ نُنَكِّسْهُ فِى ٱلْخَلْقِ أَفَلَا يَعْقِلُونَ ٦٨

[36:68] And when We grant a long life to any one, We reverse him back to the original creation. Do they not then use their intelligence?

وَمَا عَلَّمْنَـٰهُ ٱلشِّعْرَ وَمَا يَنۢبَغِى لَهُۥٓ إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا ذِكْرٌ وَقُرْءَانٌ مُّبِينٌ ٦٩

[36:69] We did not teach him poetry, nor is it befitting for him to recite one. It is only a reminder and a profound Quran.

لِّيُنذِرَ مَن كَانَ حَيًّا وَيَحِقَّ ٱلْقَوْلُ عَلَى ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ ٧٠

[36:70] This is to warn those who are alive and to fulfill the truthful promise for the unfaithful.

أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا۟ أَنَّا خَلَقْنَا لَهُم مِّمَّا عَمِلَتْ أَيْدِينَآ أَنْعَـٰمًا فَهُمْ لَهَا مَـٰلِكُونَ ٧١

[36:71] Do they not see that We created for them from Our handiwork livestock that they own?

وَذَلَّلْنَـٰهَا لَهُمْ فَمِنْهَا رَكُوبُهُمْ وَمِنْهَا يَأْكُلُونَ ٧٢

[36:72] And We have subdued them for them that they may ride some and some they may eat.

وَلَهُمْ فِيهَا مَنَـٰفِعُ وَمَشَارِبُ أَفَلَا يَشْكُرُونَ ٧٣

[36:73] And there are benefits for them as well as sources of drink. Would they not then be grateful?

وَٱتَّخَذُوا۟ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ ءَالِهَةً لَّعَلَّهُمْ يُنصَرُونَ ٧٤

[36:74] And they assumed other gods besides God that they may be helped.

لَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ نَصْرَهُمْ وَهُمْ لَهُمْ جُندٌ مُّحْضَرُونَ ٧٥

[36:75] They have no power to help them: however, they serve them like obedient soldiers.

فَلَا يَحْزُنكَ قَوْلُهُمْ إِنَّا نَعْلَمُ مَا يُسِرُّونَ وَمَا يُعْلِنُونَ ٧٦

[36:76] Therefore, do not let their utterances sadden you; We know exactly what they hide and what they declare.

أَوَلَمْ يَرَ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ أَنَّا خَلَقْنَـٰهُ مِن نُّطْفَةٍ فَإِذَا هُوَ خَصِيمٌ مُّبِينٌ ٧٧

[36:77] Does the human being not see that We indeed created him from semen, then he turns into the most manifest enemy?

وَضَرَبَ لَنَا مَثَلًا وَنَسِىَ خَلْقَهُۥ قَالَ مَن يُحْىِ ٱلْعِظَـٰمَ وَهِىَ رَمِيمٌ ٧٨

[36:78] And he cites an example for Us, while forgetting his own creation, he says; who can resurrect the bones after they are rotted?

قُلْ يُحْيِيهَا ٱلَّذِىٓ أَنشَأَهَآ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍ وَهُوَ بِكُلِّ خَلْقٍ عَلِيمٌ ٧٩

[36:79] Say; the One who initiated them in the first place will resurrect them and He fully knows every creation.

ٱلَّذِى جَعَلَ لَكُم مِّنَ ٱلشَّجَرِ ٱلْأَخْضَرِ نَارًا فَإِذَآ أَنتُم مِّنْهُ تُوقِدُونَ ٨٠

[36:80] The One who produces fuel for you from the green tree, then you ignite fire therewith.

أَوَلَيْسَ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ بِقَـٰدِرٍ عَلَىٰٓ أَن يَخْلُقَ مِثْلَهُم بَلَىٰ وَهُوَ ٱلْخَلَّـٰقُ ٱلْعَلِيمُ ٨١

[36:81] Is the One who created the vacua and matter not able to create the likes of them? Yes indeed, and He is The Creator, The All Knowing.

إِنَّمَآ أَمْرُهُۥٓ إِذَآ أَرَادَ شَيْـًٔا أَن يَقُولَ لَهُۥ كُن فَيَكُونُ ٨٢

[36:82] Indeed, once He decides anything, He simply says to it; "Be" and it is.

فَسُبْحَـٰنَ ٱلَّذِى بِيَدِهِۦ مَلَكُوتُ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ وَإِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُونَ ٨٣

[36:83] Therefore, glory to the One in whose hand is the kingship of all things and to Him you will be returned.
