Sura 73: Al-Muzzammil (The Coverer)

الْمُزَّمِّل

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
In the name of God, The All Gracious, The All Merciful

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلْمُزَّمِّلُ ١
[73:1] O you coverer.

قُمِ ٱلَّيْلَ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا ٢
[73:2] Stay up at night only for a little while.

نِّصْفَهُۥٓ أَوِ ٱنقُصْ مِنْهُ قَلِيلًا ٣
[73:3] Half of it, or a little less,-

أَوْ زِدْ عَلَيْهِ وَرَتِّلِ ٱلْقُرْءَانَ تَرْتِيلًا ٤
[73:4] -or a bit more; and read the Quran from cover to cover.

إِنَّا سَنُلْقِى عَلَيْكَ قَوْلًا ثَقِيلًا ٥
[73:5] We will soon reveal to you an important message.

إِنَّ نَاشِئَةَ ٱلَّيْلِ هِىَ أَشَدُّ وَطْـًٔا وَأَقْوَمُ قِيلًا ٦
[73:6] Indeed the meditation by night is most effective and has a lasting legacy.

إِنَّ لَكَ فِى ٱلنَّهَارِ سَبْحًا طَوِيلًا ٧
[73:7] Surely, during the daylight, there are other things for you to keep you occupied.

وَٱذْكُرِ ٱسْمَ رَبِّكَ وَتَبَتَّلْ إِلَيْهِ تَبْتِيلًا ٨
[73:8] And commemorate the name of your Lord, and get closer and closer to Him.

رَّبُّ ٱلْمَشْرِقِ وَٱلْمَغْرِبِ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ فَٱتَّخِذْهُ وَكِيلًا ٩
[73:9] Lord of the East and the West, there is no god except He; you shall therefore take Him as an advocate.

وَٱصْبِرْ عَلَىٰ مَا يَقُولُونَ وَٱهْجُرْهُمْ هَجْرًا جَمِيلًا ١٠
[73:10] And be patient in the face of their utterances and ignore them in a nice manner.

وَذَرْنِى وَٱلْمُكَذِّبِينَ أُو۟لِى ٱلنَّعْمَةِ وَمَهِّلْهُمْ قَلِيلًا ١١
[73:11] And leave the rejecters to Me, those who have been blessed generously, and give them a little time.

إِنَّ لَدَيْنَآ أَنكَالًا وَجَحِيمًا ١٢
[73:12] Indeed, with Us are shackles and an Inferno.

وَطَعَامًا ذَا غُصَّةٍ وَعَذَابًا أَلِيمًا ١٣
[73:13] And choking food and a painful suffering.

يَوْمَ تَرْجُفُ ٱلْأَرْضُ وَٱلْجِبَالُ وَكَانَتِ ٱلْجِبَالُ كَثِيبًا مَّهِيلًا ١٤
[73:14] The day when the ground and the mountains will tremble and the mountains will be like a weightless pile.

إِنَّآ أَرْسَلْنَآ إِلَيْكُمْ رَسُولًا شَـٰهِدًا عَلَيْكُمْ كَمَآ أَرْسَلْنَآ إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ رَسُولًا ١٥
[73:15] We have indeed sent to you a messenger as a witness over you, just as We sent a messenger to Pharaoh.

فَعَصَىٰ فِرْعَوْنُ ٱلرَّسُولَ فَأَخَذْنَـٰهُ أَخْذًا وَبِيلًا ١٦
[73:16] However, Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger; so We inflicted upon him a disastrous punishment.

فَكَيْفَ تَتَّقُونَ إِن كَفَرْتُمْ يَوْمًا يَجْعَلُ ٱلْوِلْدَٰنَ شِيبًا ١٧
[73:17] Therefore, how can you protect yourselves if you lose faith on a day when children turn gray-haired.

ٱلسَّمَآءُ مُنفَطِرٌۢ بِهِۦ كَانَ وَعْدُهُۥ مَفْعُولًا ١٨
[73:18] The vacuum ruptures because of Him, His promise will be fulfilled.

إِنَّ هَـٰذِهِۦ تَذْكِرَةٌ فَمَن شَآءَ ٱتَّخَذَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِۦ سَبِيلًا ١٩
[73:19] Indeed this is a reminder, therefore, let whoever wills take a path to his Lord.

إِنَّ رَبَّكَ يَعْلَمُ أَنَّكَ تَقُومُ أَدْنَىٰ مِن ثُلُثَىِ ٱلَّيْلِ وَنِصْفَهُۥ وَثُلُثَهُۥ وَطَآئِفَةٌ مِّنَ ٱلَّذِينَ مَعَكَ وَٱللَّهُ26632 يُقَدِّرُ ٱلَّيْلَ وَٱلنَّهَارَ عَلِمَ أَن لَّن تُحْصُوهُ فَتَابَ عَلَيْكُمْ فَٱقْرَءُوا۟ مَا تَيَسَّرَ مِنَ ٱلْقُرْءَانِ عَلِمَ أَن سَيَكُونُ مِنكُم مَّرْضَىٰ وَءَاخَرُونَ يَضْرِبُونَ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ يَبْتَغُونَ مِن فَضْلِ ٱللَّهِ26643 وَءَاخَرُونَ يُقَـٰتِلُونَ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ26654 فَٱقْرَءُوا۟ مَا تَيَسَّرَ مِنْهُ وَأَقِيمُوا۟ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَءَاتُوا۟ ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ وَأَقْرِضُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ26665 قَرْضًا حَسَنًا وَمَا تُقَدِّمُوا۟ لِأَنفُسِكُم مِّنْ خَيْرٍ تَجِدُوهُ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ26676 هُوَ خَيْرًا وَأَعْظَمَ أَجْرًا وَٱسْتَغْفِرُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ26687 إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ26698 غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌۢ ٢٠
[73:20] Your Lord knows that you indeed stay up nearly two-thirds of the night or half of it, or a third of it, and so do a group of those with you. However, God26632 has designed the night and the day. He knows that you cannot do this all the time; He thus has accepted your repentance, therefore, read from the Quran whatever you can. He knows that some of you are ill, and others are traveling seeking God26643's bounty and yet others are striving in the cause of God26654, so read from it as much as possible. And observe the contact prayer and give the cleansing charity and give God26665 a loan of righteousness. And whatever good you send forth on behalf of your souls you will find it as a better reward with God26676. And ask God26687 for forgiveness for indeed God26698 is All Forgiving, All Merciful.
