Sura 78: An-Naba’ (The News)
النَّبَأ
40 verses · Revelation order 80
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
In the name of God, The All Gracious, The All Merciful

ٱلَّذِى هُمْ فِيهِ مُخْتَلِفُونَ ٣
[78:3]
The very thing that they are disputing.

ثُمَّ كَلَّا سَيَعْلَمُونَ ٥
[78:5]
Then again, absolutely, they will soon find out.

أَلَمْ نَجْعَلِ ٱلْأَرْضَ مِهَـٰدًا ٦
[78:6]
Did We not make the land an oasis-

وَجَعَلْنَا نَوْمَكُمْ سُبَاتًا ٩
[78:9]
And We made the sleep for you to rest.

وَجَعَلْنَا ٱلَّيْلَ لِبَاسًا ١٠
[78:10]
And We made the night a cover.

وَجَعَلْنَا ٱلنَّهَارَ مَعَاشًا ١١
[78:11]
And We made the daylight to earn a living.

وَبَنَيْنَا فَوْقَكُمْ سَبْعًا شِدَادًا ١٢
[78:12]
And We constructed above you seven firmaments.

وَجَعَلْنَا سِرَاجًا وَهَّاجًا ١٣
[78:13]
And We created a beautiful lamp.

وَأَنزَلْنَا مِنَ ٱلْمُعْصِرَٰتِ مَآءً ثَجَّاجًا ١٤
[78:14]
And We send down from the clouds pouring water.

لِّنُخْرِجَ بِهِۦ حَبًّا وَنَبَاتًا ١٥
[78:15]
In order that We may produce therewith grain and vegetation.

إِنَّ يَوْمَ ٱلْفَصْلِ كَانَ مِيقَـٰتًا ١٧
[78:17]
Indeed, the Day of Judgment has a specific time.

يَوْمَ يُنفَخُ فِى ٱلصُّورِ فَتَأْتُونَ أَفْوَاجًا ١٨
[78:18]
The day when the trumpet sounds you will come in waves.

وَفُتِحَتِ ٱلسَّمَآءُ فَكَانَتْ أَبْوَٰبًا ١٩
[78:19]
And the vacuum ruptures as though it has gates.

وَسُيِّرَتِ ٱلْجِبَالُ فَكَانَتْ سَرَابًا ٢٠
[78:20]
And the mountains will move as though they were a mirage.

إِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ كَانَتْ مِرْصَادًا ٢١
[78:21]
Indeed, Gehenna will be ever watchful.

لَّـٰبِثِينَ فِيهَآ أَحْقَابًا ٢٣
[78:23]
They will abide therein forever.

لَّا يَذُوقُونَ فِيهَا بَرْدًا وَلَا شَرَابًا ٢٤
[78:24]
They will never feel a cool breeze nor will they ever taste a cool drink.

إِلَّا حَمِيمًا وَغَسَّاقًا ٢٥
[78:25]
Except hellish liquid and pus.

إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ لَا يَرْجُونَ حِسَابًا ٢٧
[78:27]
Indeed, they never expected any reckoning.

وَكَذَّبُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا كِذَّابًا ٢٨
[78:28]
And they rejected Our Signs continuously.

وَكُلَّ شَىْءٍ أَحْصَيْنَـٰهُ كِتَـٰبًا ٢٩
[78:29]
And We have counted everything in a record.

فَذُوقُوا۟ فَلَن نَّزِيدَكُمْ إِلَّا عَذَابًا ٣٠
[78:30]
Therefore, taste it for We will not increase anything for you except suffering.

إِنَّ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ مَفَازًا ٣١
[78:31]
Indeed as for the god-fearing ones, they will be victorious.

وَكَوَاعِبَ أَتْرَابًا ٣٣
[78:33]
And spouses who are perfectly matched.

لَّا يَسْمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغْوًا وَلَا كِذَّٰبًا ٣٥
[78:35]
They will never hear therein any nonsense or lies.

جَزَآءً مِّن رَّبِّكَ عَطَآءً حِسَابًا ٣٦
[78:36]
A reward from your Lord, an exactly calculated gift.

رَّبِّ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ لَا يَمْلِكُونَ مِنْهُ خِطَابًا ٣٧
[78:37]
The Lord of the vacua and matter, and everything between them, The All Gracious, no one to utter a word in His presence.

يَوْمَ يَقُومُ ٱلرُّوحُ وَٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ صَفًّا لَّا يَتَكَلَّمُونَ إِلَّا مَنْ أَذِنَ لَهُ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ وَقَالَ صَوَابًا ٣٨
[78:38]
The day when the Spirit and the angels will stand in rows, none shall speak except the one who is permitted by The All Gracious, and he utters only what is right.

ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْيَوْمُ ٱلْحَقُّ فَمَن شَآءَ ٱتَّخَذَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِۦ مَـَٔابًا ٣٩
[78:39]
That is the day of truth, therefore, let whoever wills choose his Lord as a refuge.

إِنَّآ أَنذَرْنَـٰكُمْ عَذَابًا قَرِيبًا يَوْمَ يَنظُرُ ٱلْمَرْءُ مَا قَدَّمَتْ يَدَاهُ وَيَقُولُ ٱلْكَافِرُ يَـٰلَيْتَنِى كُنتُ تُرَٰبًۢا ٤٠
[78:40]
We have indeed warned you of the impending suffering. The day when the man sees what his two hands had brought forth and the unfaithful says, O I wish I were dust.
