Sura 89: Al-Fajr (The Dawn)
الْفَجْر

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
In the name of God, The All Gracious, The All Merciful

هَلْ فِى ذَٰلِكَ قَسَمٌ لِّذِى حِجْرٍ ٥
[89:5]
Should it not be an oath for those who possess intelligence?

أَلَمْ تَرَ كَيْفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِعَادٍ ٦
[89:6]
Do you not realize what your Lord did to Aad?

ٱلَّتِى لَمْ يُخْلَقْ مِثْلُهَا فِى ٱلْبِلَـٰدِ ٨
[89:8]
The likes of which were not created in any civilization.

وَثَمُودَ ٱلَّذِينَ جَابُوا۟ ٱلصَّخْرَ بِٱلْوَادِ ٩
[89:9]
And to Thamoud who carved mansions in the rocks of the valley?

وَفِرْعَوْنَ ذِى ٱلْأَوْتَادِ ١٠
[89:10]
And to Pharaoh, possessor of might?

ٱلَّذِينَ طَغَوْا۟ فِى ٱلْبِلَـٰدِ ١١
[89:11]
They were transgressing civilizations.

فَأَكْثَرُوا۟ فِيهَا ٱلْفَسَادَ ١٢
[89:12]
They continuously spread corruption.

فَصَبَّ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّكَ سَوْطَ عَذَابٍ ١٣
[89:13]
Consequently, your Lord poured upon them a whipping suffering.

إِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَبِٱلْمِرْصَادِ ١٤
[89:14]
Indeed your Lord is ever watchful.

فَأَمَّا ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ إِذَا مَا ٱبْتَلَىٰهُ رَبُّهُۥ فَأَكْرَمَهُۥ وَنَعَّمَهُۥ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّىٓ أَكْرَمَنِ ١٥
[89:15]
When the human being is tested by his Lord, and He honors him and blesses him, he says, my Lord has honored me.

وَأَمَّآ إِذَا مَا ٱبْتَلَىٰهُ فَقَدَرَ عَلَيْهِ رِزْقَهُۥ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّىٓ أَهَـٰنَنِ ١٦
[89:16]
But when He puts him to a test and reduces his provisions, he then says, my Lord has humiliated me.

كَلَّا بَل لَّا تُكْرِمُونَ ٱلْيَتِيمَ ١٧
[89:17]
No absolutely not! It is you who has not honored the fatherless.

وَلَا تَحَـٰٓضُّونَ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ ٱلْمِسْكِينِ ١٨
[89:18]
And have never encouraged feeding the poor.

وَتَأْكُلُونَ ٱلتُّرَاثَ أَكْلًا لَّمًّا ١٩
[89:19]
And have devoured inheritance with greed.

وَتُحِبُّونَ ٱلْمَالَ حُبًّا جَمًّا ٢٠
[89:20]
And you loved money with unending love.

كَلَّآ إِذَا دُكَّتِ ٱلْأَرْضُ دَكًّا دَكًّا ٢١
[89:21]
Absolutely, when matter is utterly pulverized,-

وَجَآءَ رَبُّكَ وَٱلْمَلَكُ صَفًّا صَفًّا ٢٢
[89:22]
-and your Lord comes as well as the angels, row after row,-

وَجِا۟ىٓءَ يَوْمَئِذٍۭ بِجَهَنَّمَ يَوْمَئِذٍ يَتَذَكَّرُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ وَأَنَّىٰ لَهُ ٱلذِّكْرَىٰ ٢٣
[89:23]
-on that day, Gehenna will be brought forth. On that day the human will be reminded, and what a reminder.

يَقُولُ يَـٰلَيْتَنِى قَدَّمْتُ لِحَيَاتِى ٢٤
[89:24]
He will say, O I wish I had prepared for my life.

فَيَوْمَئِذٍ لَّا يُعَذِّبُ عَذَابَهُۥٓ أَحَدٌ ٢٥
[89:25]
Then on that day, his suffering will be like none other.

وَلَا يُوثِقُ وَثَاقَهُۥٓ أَحَدٌ ٢٦
[89:26]
And His confinement will be like none other.

يَـٰٓأَيَّتُهَا ٱلنَّفْسُ ٱلْمُطْمَئِنَّةُ ٢٧
[89:27]
As for you, O contented soul,-

ٱرْجِعِىٓ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكِ رَاضِيَةً مَّرْضِيَّةً ٢٨
[89:28]
-return to your Lord, pleased, and pleasing.
